Save the Child Initiative (STCI), signed a sub-agreement with United Nation International Children Emergency Fund to implement the Spotlight Initiative Project in Sokoto North and Sokoto South LGAs of Sokoto State. The Spotlight Initiative is a Global partnership between the UN and the EU to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls.
The focus in Africa is on Eliminating sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), harmful practices (HPs), and addressing related aspects of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHRs). The project has 6 pillars. However, under the project, Save the Child Initiative will be implementing Pillar 2 which is on Strengthening Institutions and Pillar 3 which is on Prevention and Social Norms. The following were achieved during the quarter under review:
- Monthly meetings with the 12 case workers per LGA to strengthen their capacity to carryout effective case identification, report and follow up
- 106 cases of violence against girls and children consisting of 45 males and 61 females were investigated and prosecuted by Security Agencies.
- 121 children consisting of 55 males and 61 females were registered using the Child Protection Information Management System form
- 286 key decision makers (traditional leaders, etc) reached in informal institutions with strengthened awareness and capacities to advocate for implementation of legislation and policies on VAWG/SGBV/HP and for gender-equitable norms, attitudes and behaviors and women and girls’ rights
- 154 networksof men and boyscomprising of the NURTW, Traditional Leaders, Religious Leaders, Male Youth Groups, male PLWD, Keke Rider and Okada Riders,100 women group continued to advocate against VAW/G/C/HP/SGBV and to promote gender equitable Norms and women participation in their respective groups across the 22 wards of Sokoto North and Sokoto South LGAs.
- 88 female groups comprising of 100 Women group, FOMWAN, female PLWD and female Youth group, continued to carryout advocacies in their respective groups across the 22 wards of Sokoto North and Sokoto South LGAs.
- During the period of reporting, 12 dialogues were conducted out of which 2 were conducted in Sokoto North and 8 in Sokoto South.
- 1,339 people consisting of 969 males and 410 females were reached by campaigns and interventions transforming negative social norms and gender stereotyping that promote VAWG/HP/SGBV
- 106 VAG/C cases consisting of 45 males and 61 females were identified and reported to the State Sexual and Gender based /Child Protection Response Team.
- 274 Children consisting of 79 males and 195 females who report being victims of violence were provided with at least three services.
